OBESITY AND WORK OF THE BAIANAS DE ACARAJÉ IN THE CITY OF SALVADOR,

BAHIA, BRAZIL

Abstract

This is a qualitative study aiming to examine the meanings of the phenomenon of

the obese body of the baianas de acarajé and the relationship with their health, environment and

eating habits at work. The work of the baiana de acarajé is exhausting and requires much dedication.

While that is the livelihood of these workers, this kind of activity can bring harm to the health of

these women. The fire, smoke and repetitive movements are mentioned as possible risks for the

acquisition of accidents and illnesses. It was identifeid that the baianas de acarajé elect a double

body regarding the way of living in the world: obese for their work and lean to your daily life. In

this sense it is perceived that the lack of time for social life allows them to not take care of their

body and their food.

OBESIDAD Y EL TRABAJO DE LAS BAIANAS DE ACARAJÉ EN LA CIUDAD DE SALVADOR,

BAHIA, BRASIL

Resumen

Este estudio tiene como tema el trabajo del artesano del baianas de acarajé y de la

relación con la salud de este trabajador y su ambiente del trabajo. El trabajo de la baiana de acarajé

es agotador y requiere mucha dedicación. Mientras es el sustento de esos trabajadores, este tipo

de actividad puede traer el daño a la salud de estas mujeres. El fuego, movimientos repetitivos y

humos se mencionan como posibles riesgos para la adquisición de accidentes y enfermedades;

ellos eligen un cuerpo doble en lo referente a la manera de vivir en el mundo: obesos para su

trabajo y magra para su vida cotidiana. En este sentido se percibe que la falta de tiempo para la

vida social permite que no cuidar de su cuerpo y su comida. Uno concluyó que el trabajo arduo y

del desgastante ejecutado por el baianas de acarajé promueve una fatiga recurrente, eso si agrava

en la repetición de los movimientos generados en curso de producción de galletas y problemas de

la causa de la salud agravados con el exceso de peso y el obesidade.
