This works deals with the presentation of a possible space for the analysis of the institutionalization process of
the Community Health Agent (CHA) from the perspective of Discourse Analysis. It attempts to comprehend
the effects of institutionalization of the Community Health Agent by means of the laws, norms and documents
produced by the Health Ministry. The problem consists of giving visibility to the dense, complex and
contradictory signification network that supports the course of the institutionalization of this professional.
Within our disquiet regarding the effects of the institutionalization of the Community Health Agent, we have
tried to demonstrate that the fact of dealing with relations of meaning shows us how the discourse functions,
working the signification processes to-and-fro. The process of institutionalizing the CHA shows that this
agent is being silenced in his functions, suffering, therefore, a process of extinguishment. This generates
dissatisfaction with the work developed by the CHAs and a progressive disappearance of their speech within
the exchange processes in the groups.
