ABSTRACT 

 

   

The  population  aging  is  a  fact  observed  in  Brazil  and  abroad.  Therefore,  it  can  be 

noticed  an  increase  on  the  number  of  elderly  in  the  community,  with  most  of  them 

presenting chronic degenerative diseases, and need of assistance on daily activities 

(DA´s),  which  requires  the  necessity  of  a  home  caregiver,  to  provide  everyday 

support. This study has as its main goal to define the profile of the elderly caregiver in 

the city of Rio Bom-PR, assisted by PSF. It regards to a quantitative, descriptive and 

transversal  study,  utilizing  structured  interview.  The  results  have  shown  the 

predominance of women as caregivers, most daughters, claiming to be hypertensive, 

aged over 40 years old, with significant percentage over 60, dedicating themselves to 

home  tasks  and  full  time  assistance,  claiming  not  having  many  difficulties  on 

performing the activities. Regarding to the elderly dependence, it has been used the 

Katz  assessment  scale,  which  reveals  more  dependence  for  daily  activities  (DA´s), 

with getting dressed, bathed and using the toilet as the most frequent ones.
