The history of the atom theory: A Fleckian
analysis from Dalton until Bohr
Abstract:
This article presents an overview of the history of the
development the Atomic Theory in the period before and
after the construction of the Cavendish’s Laboratory at the
University of Cambridge in England. Our goal is to show
how Fleck theoretical framework is fruitful to an
externalist approach of science, as in the construction of
these theories, the predominant style of thinking was that
of the researchers who had their studies linked in some
way to that lab. It concludes arguing about the extent to
which knowledge of this framing can contribute to the
understanding of the influence that external factors have
on the construction of science.
