This paper deals about the genocide in Rwanda in 1994, which resulted in the massacre of
approximately 800,000 people in about 100 days, one of the most shocking and cruel events
of the twentieth century. The main objective of the study was to analyze the massacre,
showing its antecedents, its
causes and its consequences, both
internal and more to the
country, through bibliographical research, from academic works, newspapers, magazines and
electronic media. There was a indisputable disinterest and omission on the part of the United
Nations (UN)
and its member states, which undermined the
credibility of the institution,
resulting in harsh criticism from the international media. In this way, questions arose as to the
politic of humanitarian intervention promoted by the organization.
Key words: Rwanda. Genocide. UN. Humanitarian interventions.
